A new study is finding that the drug, esomeprazole magnesium, is less likely to cause cancer-causing mutations.

It is the same drug that was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in 1999 for the treatment of acid reflux disease.

The researchers from Harvard Medical School found that taking the drug in patients who do not have acid reflux, and who do have a history of ulcerative colitis, or ulcerative G6PD deficiency, or another type of stomach-acid-related cancer, did not lead to a significant reduction in the chance of developing ulcerative colitis.

“It’s important to note that the drugs in the study were found to be less likely to cause a reduced risk of cancer in patients with an ulcerative colitis diagnosis,” said Dr. Michael Kavaler, a gastroenterologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, who led the study.

The study, published in the journalJAMA Internal Medicine, was funded by GlaxoSmithKline. The drug was originally used to treat chronic acid reflux disease, but the drug was discovered and approved in 1999.

The researchers noted that the researchers have not yet published their findings in peer-reviewed journals.

The study was the first to show that the drug may prevent cancer-causing mutations that cause ulcerative colitis, and that the drug may protect against the risk of developing ulcerative colitis from other drugs that block acid-base.

In fact, researchers discovered the drug was not likely to cause cancer-causing mutations.

Dr. Mark R. D'Agostino, of Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and colleagues also found that esomeprazole magnesium, a prescription drug used to treat acid reflux disease, was also less likely to cause cancer-causing mutations.

The researchers also discovered that the drugs in the study were not associated with cancer-causing mutations.

“This is the first study to show that there’s a small increased risk of cancer-causing mutations in people who have ulcerative colitis,” said D'Agostino. “If you look at the study group that’s included all the patients who were treated with a prescription drug, it shows that the drug was a little bit less likely to cause cancer-causing mutations, but it was still associated with a reduced risk of cancer-causing mutations.”

This research has not been peer-reviewed. The researchers are continuing to look at other cancer drugs.
